HOOPH Benefit Event: Helping Others Overcome Personal Handicaps

The Staten Island Recreational Association, a nonprofit (501c3) organization, is the only fully insured PATH International certified center on Staten Island. The Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, International (PATH Intl.) is a membership organization that fosters safe, professional, ethical and therapeutic equine activities through education, communication, standards and research for people with and without disabilities.

In early 2005, they created The H.O.O.P.H. Program. The program goals include:

  • Providing children with disabilities an opportunity to participate in their horseback riding program.
  • Increasing socialization and interpersonal relationships using our horses, while providing an enjoyable recreational experience.
  • Improving the physical condition of their participants through strength, relaxation, mobility, balance, and coordination.
  •
On Sunday, September 24, 2017 Accessible Dispatch attended the H.O.O.P.H. benefit on Staten Island to reach out to the community and help passengers learn more about the Accessible Dispatch Program. The event raised funds through raffle tickets

Our New York crew, Sonita Terrell, Crys Cooper, Darlene Gibbs and Kyle Bissell were in attendance and giving away swag bags to all of this year’s award winners. The team met with city officials and discussed removing barriers in the community and the extension of transportation options now available through the Accessible Dispatch program.
